Natural Tranquility

·       To createa family friendly and functional environment with natural wildlife attractingplants in the back yard, and a more structured feel in the front.

·       Thebiggest challenge was retaining the severe grade changes at the back of thehouse

·       The gradechange was addressed first during the design stage (there was a 6’ drop withina 15’ span). Many options were talked about with the client, but in the end weall decided that very large boulders would be the best option. This option gavethem not only the retention they needed, but also the natural feel they werelooking for…all at a reasonable price.

·       We cutinto the existing gradual slopes, installed the small fiberglass pool, and thenstarted installing the oversized boulders to retain the grades on each side ofthe property.

·       Boulderswere carefully placed to both retain the grades and to make it look as naturalas possible. The lowest level nearest the hardscapes doubles as a long benchthat wraps around the pool.

·       Thehardscapes were installed around the pool, and an elevated spa was installednear the house.

·       Theplantings were especially close to the clients’ heart, so a lot of time wasspent on what varieties would be placed in certain areas. They were chosen fortheir spring/summer/winter interest, with careful consideration for attractingbees, hummingbirds, and butterflies to the site.

·       Fencingand lighting was installed for safety and security.

·       Thefront of the property has a completely different feel. We included a fewboulders so the front ties in with the back, but the plantings are verydifferent, and offer a more structured and clean look
